JOHN A. DABNEY 1932 - 2011 John A. Dabney, 78, of North Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Provena Geneva Care Center after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born September 26, 1932 in Aurora to James and Margaret (Olinger) Dabney John graduated from West Aurora High School in 1951. Following his graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1955. He married Betty Otto of Aurora at Holy Angels Church on November 3, 1956. John worked for fifteen years in paint sales. In 1971 John and Betty purchased Dabney Decorating an interior decorating, art and picture framing business in Moline, IL. In 1986 they sold the business to Dick Blick Art Company; John continued to manage the business until his retirement in 1998. John was a very creative person. He enjoyed landscaping, art, dogs and collecting. Survivors include his wife, Betty; three children, Steven of Cedar Rapids, IA, Philip of Las Vegas, NV, Laura (Lenny) Krystal of Carol Stream, IL; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jesse, Joseph, Tyler, Sammy; three sisters, Dellora McReynolds of Hughson, CA, Nancy (Joe) Chione of North Aurora, IL, Marjorie Chapman of Arnold, MD; two sisters-in-law, Bette Dabney of Pierson, MI, Billye Dabney of Austin, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter Dabney and Richard Dabney. John’s family wishes to thank the staffs at Provena Geneva Care Center and Passages Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to Holy Angels Church at 11:00 AM. Fr. Randy Fronek will officiate. Interment will be private.
