Gertrude K. Fors

Gertrude K. Fors, 96, of Aurora, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at Jennings Terrace in Aurora. She was born July 7, 1921 in Naperville Township, Illinois. She graduated from East Aurora High School in 1938. After retiring from the Department of Public Aid, Gertrude volunteered at the Holy Angels Food Pantry most every Tuesday morning for the next twenty five years. Gertrude’s faith was very important to her. She was a member of Holy Angels Church for sixty five years and a past member of the Saint Anne Society. Along with her sister, Theresa she made a pilgrimage to Medjugorie. Gertrude and her husband also traveled to Europe, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Mexico during their retirement years with her sister Kathryn and her husband. Gertrude’s greatest joy was her family. She was known to prepare Sunday dinner for the extended family until recent years. She enjoyed holiday traditions and was adamant about single handedly preparing holiday meals for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until very recently. She thoroughly enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her lap was always open for a story or a nap. She was always ready with drawing supplies or up for a game of poker, Uno or Old Maid and had treats for each individual’s liking. Outdoors she played ball games, blew bubbles or strolled the neighborhood with the grandchildren. We learned the importance of family and tradition from her and her presence along with dad’s, she will be greatly missed. Survivors include two children, David (Laura) Fors and Lynn (Daniel) Mitchell; three grandchildren, Breana (Jon) Dorn, Joseph (Leah) Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell; six great grandchildren, Kyle Dorn, T.J. Dorn, Rylie Dorn, Titus Mitchell, Verity Mitchell, and Temperance Mitchell; her sister, Kathryn Steil; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Francis Fors; her parents, John and Hella (Unger) Poss; two sons, Gerald Fors and Daniel Fors; two sisters, Suzanne Walden and Theresa Davis; two brothers, Arthur Poss and Leonard Poss. The family would like to thank the staff of Seasons Hospice and Dawn from Visiting Angels for the loving care they gave her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Holy Angels Church at 12:00 PM. Fr. Michael Lavan will officiate with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In state visitation will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2017 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Holy Angels Church, 120 South Lancaster Avenue, Aurora, IL 60506.
