Gema Irina Cornea

Presbytera (P.sa). Gema Irina Cornea, 85, of Rockford passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 at her home in Rockford, Illinois where she lived for the past 12 years with her daughter Ramona and grandson Ted. She was born on June 10, 1927 in Carei, Satu-Mare County, Romania. Her parents were Father Coriolan and Irina Pop. She grew up in Carei and during the World War II as a refugee in Timisoara. On February 2, 1947 she married than to be Father Teodor Cornea and had three children. For more than 35 years, P.sa.Gema and her family lived in Oradea, Bihor County, Romania. In 1993, P.sa. Gema and her entire family came to USA and become proud US Citizens. P.sa. Gema lived in Aurora and after that in Rockford. P.sa. Gema was granddaughter, daughter, wife, and mother of Romanian Greek-Catholic priests. She is survived by her three children; Ramona Cornea of Rockford, Father Sergiu and Psa. Ritta Cornea of Aurora, Corina and Tayeb Farez of Forest Park, Illinois. Four grandchildren; Vanda Claudia Cornea and Daniel Toner, Nordin Michael Farez and Amy Sarosiek, Rahmouna Leila Farez and Paul Trumble and Teodor Adrian Pintea and Kristen Ott. Four great-grandchildren; Alexia Theodora, Aidan Robert, Ava Nicole, Nassim Teodor, and Miriam Irina. Other family members and friends that remember vividly her sense of humor, hospitality, and kindness are from USA, Romania, France, Algeria, Sweden, and Canada. She is preceded in death by her husband Father Teodor Cornea, her parents, Father Coriolan Pop and Irina Popescu Pop; and her two brothers, Lucian Pop and Marin Pop. Funeral services will be held Friday August 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Romanian Catholic Church in Aurora Illinois; His Grace Bishop John Michael Botean and priests from Romanian Catholic Diocese will officiate the funeral with interment at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at St. Michael’s Romanian Catholic Church in Aurora, Illinois.
