Elba Ruth Chaidez

Elba Ruth Chaidez (nee Cruz-Barillas) died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 29, 2012. She was born in Chiquimulia, Guatemala and was later raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She was born to Oscar Cruz Acevedo and Hermelinda Barillas Moreno. She studied at El Colegio Sagrado Corazon and became a grade school teacher. She taught countless students in Guatemala before moving to the United States in 1970 to marry her husband Pedro Chaidez. They raised their family in the Marywood area of Aurora, IL. Elba was a devoted member of St. Rita of Cascia Parish in Aurora, IL. She was very dedicated to God and her faith was an important part of her life. She became a citizen of the United States in 1995. For many years she was actively involved in the League of United Latin American Citizens. She will always be remembered for her enthusiasm for life and her outgoing personality. She was beloved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Elba’s passion was to travel and see the world. Over the years she visited various cities in Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany, France, Canada, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, and countless others. Survivors include her husband of over forty years, Pedro Chaidez; her three daughters, Valeska Chaidez, Elizabeth (Ryan) Kline and Elba (Ronnie) Urbealis; her granddaughters, Arianna and Alex Renteria, and Jada and Jocelyn Urbealis; her mother, Hermelinda Barillas de Moreno; her sister, Leticia Cruz de Orive; her nephew, Luis Orive; and her nieces, Patty Orive de Veliz and Karla Orive de Silva. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Cruz Acevedo. Elba’s family would like to thank all of the staff at the ICU unit at Provena Mercy Medical Center for their dedicated care and support during this difficult time. Their compassion and care made this process easier for her family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012 from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY at 11:30 AM to St. Joseph Church at 12:00 PM. Interment will be in Marywood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 2:00PM – 8:00 PM, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 4:30 PM, at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora. 630-631-5500.
