Betty Lee Gardner Lackey Gibson

Betty Lee Gardner Lackey Gibson, age 93, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on May 14, 2021. She was born March 12, 1928 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the daughter of Jesse and Vocie (Holcomb) Gardner. Betty was married to Alfred R Lackey for 35 years and together they raised four children: Alfred R Lackey, Jr. (Anita), of Valparaiso, IN; Sharon L Mead (Vic), of Aurora, IL; Daniel R Lackey (Deborah) of Grand Prairie, TX; and Darlene K Kavlick of Shawnee On Delaware, PA. Betty later married Richard Gibson and they enjoyed many happy years together. Betty and Dick were members of Knox Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor. Betty worked for several years for the University of Michigan in the Graduate Admissions Department, but for most of her adult years she was a wonderful homemaker, mother and wife. She was very devoted to her family. She was a wonderful cook and her family enjoyed her delicious meals and large array of Christmas cookies. Betty also had a "green thumb" and loved gardening. Flowers and plants all thrived under her care. Betty loved her home in Ann Arbor and was an Ann Arbor resident for over 50 years, but in January of 2021 she moved into Bickford of Aurora, an assisted living home, so she could be nearer to family. To the very end of her life, Betty loved coffee-the hotter the better! Betty's survivors include her four children and their spouses, and thirteen grandchildren: Amy Cauwels, Mark Lackey (Kelly), Amanda Hobson Martinez (Rudolfo), Jessica Ryan (Peter), Jared Mead (Aspen), Diana Crowell (Jesse), Collin Lackey, Calista Lackey, Alec Lackey, Jennifer White (Richard), Christopher Kavlick, Jamie Kavlick, and Kelly Kavlick. She is also survived by 21 great grandchildren: Chelsea Osborn(Brandon), Holden Cauwels, Pierson Cauwels (Holly), Benjamin Lackey, Nathaniel Lackey, Katie Lackey, Adeline Lackey, Anna Lackey, Tyler Hobson, Luke Hobson, Ian Hobson, Vera Lee Martinez, Caleb Ryan, Emery Ryan, Anistyn Ryan, Addison Crowell, Charlie White, Cole White, Caraden Kavlick, Tiffany Kavlick, and Bradley Kavlick. Also surviving her are Richard's children Tami Gibson and Ronald Gibson. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Gardner; her sister Mildred Gregoire; her husband, Richard Gibson; and great granddaughter, Everlee Crowell.
