Rosemary Kanive

Rosemary Kanive, 88, of Aurora, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 29, at her home, The Neighbors Next Door. Rosemary was born on December 10, 1929, in Aurora to Alex F. and Emma Oros. She graduated from Madonna High School. She then was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ed Kanive, Sr., on May 8, 1948, and spent the next 57 years of her life together until his passing in April, 2006. Rosemary’s life was her family. She was a very devoted, generous, loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She always found the good in everyone. In her earlier years, Rosemary enjoyed traveling the world, but especially loved her 37 years visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, every February, where she made many life long friends. She also was an avid Cub fan, attending many games with her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching the Bears, whom she said recently “were tough”. One of her favorite pastimes was reading. Her granddaughter, Kristi, made many, many trips to the library just to keep her in books. Rosemary was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Parish for over 60 years. Her faith and religion were very important to her, which was evident to anyone who knew her. She volunteered for many years at the Soup Kitchen at Hesed House. Rosemary also loved animals. She always had at least one dog in her home until “Maxine” passed away. She was always collecting scraps to feed her daily visitors...raccoons, opossums, squirrels, birds, and even a fox or two. They were all welcome at her buffet. The kids from Lehnertz Avenue have great memories of swimming at the Kanive pool. On any given day, the pool was filled with kids splashing and having fun. Rosemary watched all the swimmers, and even taught most of the neighborhood kids how to swim. She even saved a couple. Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Karlene Anderson, of Aurora; her son, Tim A (Mary) of Joliet; her daughter-in-law, Lillian (the late Ed, Jr.) of Elwood. She is also survived by her grandchildren Doug (Georgia) Kanive of Joliet, Paul (Jennifer) Waters of Morris, Kristi (Steve) Hess of Aurora, Missy (Nick Perry) Kanive of Marseilles, Brandon (Dawn) Waters of Yorkville, Michael (Lauren) Waters of Montgomery, Tim E. (Sarah) Kanive of Sugar Grove, Andrea (Matthew) Rickmon of Joliet, Dr. Edward (Natalia) Kanive of Oak Lawn, and Andrew (Elizabeth Kiser) Kanive of Elwood. She also has 17 great grandchildren, 3 of which she just met on Thanksgiving. She is also survived by several nieces and a nephew. Rosemary is preceded in death by her husband Ed, Sr., her son, Ed, Jr., her parents, her two sisters, Emma Oros and Martha Rungaitis, and her son-in-law, Herb Anderson. That was the most wonderful experience for our entire family. Rosemary loved it there, and her last words when she got back on Thanksgiving was “Aw, Home Sweet Home”. We will be forever grateful to all of you for her personal and wonderful care, especially Chim, whom she loved like a daughter. Rosemary made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Everyone that knew her, has a story to tell, mostly of her feisty manner. She was very respected, and will be missed by many!
